IMA recognizes top performers with Stalwart Awards

ARLINGTON, Va, (Nov. 10, 2005) -- Top performers in the Installation Management Agency for 2005 were recognized Nov. 2 with the agency’s Stalwart Award. Winners of the Stalwart Award were announced at the IMA Garrison Commanders Conference held at Shades of Green Armed Force Recreation Center, Orlando, Fla.

The Stalwart Award is presented to employees — Soldiers or civilians — who stand out as model leaders and exemplify the spirit of IMA, said JoAnn F. Anderson with IMA’s Human Resources Division Military and Civilian Awards Program. Criteria for being selected for the Stalwart Award include representing the high standards of performance, promoting the IMA mission and vision, and work performance in an exemplary manner, Anderson said.

One Stalwart Award recipient was selected from each of IMA’s seven regions. Nominees from IMA headquarters and region headquarters also competed for the award.

Europe Region Stalwart Award recipient was Master Sgt. Bruce F. Carlson, noncommissioned officer in charge of the U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt, Germany, Directorate of Plans, Training and Mobilization and Security. Nominees from the Europe Region also were Thomas C. Nunn, plans and operations specialist at U.S. Army Garrison Schinnen, Germany, and Michele A. Wolff, U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels, Germany, school liaison officer.

Korea Region Stalwart Award recipient was Mark N. Hjuler, Area III Support Activity Engineer Resource Management Division chief, Camp Humphreys, South Korea. Nominees from the Korea Region also were Command Sgt. Maj. Yolanda J. Lomax, Area I Support Activity command sergeant major, Camp Red Cloud, South Korea, and Ricky Oxendine, Area II Support Activity Law and Order Office chief, Yongsan Army Garrison, South Korea.

Northeast Region Stalwart Award recipient was Gregory M. Ferguson, Fort Drum, N.Y., director of Emergency Services. Nominees from the Northeast Region also were Richard A. Havrisko, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., supervisory general engineer, and Bruce L. Hopkins, Fort Meade, Md., deputy installation commander.

Northwest Region Stalwart Award recipient was Darrell D. Neitzel, Fort McCoy, Wis., Support Services program manager. Nominees from the Northwest Region also were Rory L. Janicke, senior quality assurance evaluator at Fort Lewis, Wash., and Nancy S. Lawson, Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., Family Child Care director.

Pacific Region Stalwart Award recipient was Gordon M. Takeshita, Residential Communities Initiative program manager for Hawaii. Nominees from the Pacific Region also were Sherry L. Hatcher, training program coordinator for Fort Richardson, Alaska, and Julie A. Thixton, Fire and Emergency Services fire chief at Camp Zama, Japan.

Southeast Region Region Stalwart Award recipient was Victoria T. DuBois, Army Community Service officer for U.S. Army Garrison Miami, Fla. Nominees from the Southeast Region also were Timothy Shea, Fort Bragg, N.C., supervisory traffic management specialist, and Steve F. Smith, Fort Bragg supervisory civil engineer.

Southwest Region Stalwart Award recipient was Vicky L. Joseph, Fort Hood, Texas, supervisory freight rate specialist. Nominees from the Southeast Region also were Patrick A. Kelly Presidio of Monterey, Calif., housing division chief and Residential Communities Initiative program manager, and John A. Ruble, Fort Huachuca, Ariz., director of Public Works.

Stalwart Award recipient for the headquarters and region category was Manette Messenger of the Southeast Region. Also nominated in this category were Rosye B. Faulk, Headquarters IMA; Michael H. Cochran, Northeast Region; Ronald J. Jakovac, Korea Region; Wesley D. Potter, Pacific Region; David Shafii, Southwest Region; Mildred R. Skidmore, Europe Region; and Brian C. Swiss, Northwest Region.

IMA’s top Soldiers also were recognized at the Garrison Commanders Conference. U.S. Army Commendation Medals were presented to Staff Sgt. Daniel Salley, a military police NCO at Fort Lee, Va., as the IMA Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, and Sgt. Serena Michelle Hayden, a public affairs specialist at Fort Sill, Okla., as the IMA Soldier of the year. Salley and Hayden also were recognized by a number of private organizations.
